Zen Blvd versus Taj Mahal: Time To Weigh In...

It's time to weigh in on the Streetscape design for North Redwood Boulevard.

Open Novato is open for comments, see link below. When you get to the city of Novato home page look to the left and down to the bottom of the menu. Click on Open Novato and register to comment.

We have two options:
The Grand Blvd or as I like to call it "Zen Blvd" and the Town Square or the "Taj Mahal".

"Zen" Blvd uses the fewest brush strokes to achieve the most. It keeps the hardscape in place but adds layers of trees between traffic, pedestrians and bicycles, widens sidewalks enough for multiple uses, puts in a dedicated bike lane away from traffic all the while maintaining two lanes of  traffic in both  directions. Zen Blvd costs less, takes less time and could be done without interfering with the addition of shops to the east side.

The Town Square Design or as I like to call it The "Taj Mahal" completely restructures the hardscape throughout North Redwood and deletes two lanes of traffic on both sides by pushing cars to the West, where we now have the most residential housing, and narrows it to one lane in either direction with a turn lane in between.

Then Taj goes even further by adding every detail to design that David Parisi could come up with. Round Abouts in place of traffic lights, art, fountains, and fences. It would also allow the city to close off the frontage street on the east side to hold Farmer's Market or the Art and Wine Festival. There are so many different ways the street is being used that what falls to the bottom of the list is cars driving on it.

Please read the Open Novato summary and weigh in. It doesn't matter which side you choose, at least take the time to discuss what you want the council to do with North Redwood Blvd before the decision is made for you.
