Get to Know Tara from Tara Firma Farms

Tara Smith of Tara Firma Farms shares her mid-life career change from the corporate insurance world to a "hands-on" farmer.

Tara Smith and her husband, Craig, began the concept of the Tara Firma Farm in 2009, and it is now a welcomed concept in our community. I had the pleasure of interviewing her as part of our weekly “Sounding Board” program. What an enthusiastic person! Tara tells us about her mid-life career change from the corporate insurance world to becoming a “hands-on” farmer.

The Tara Firma Farms is just north of Novato and grows all of its veggies bio-intensively and raises its animals on pasture. The goals are to educate the community regarding REAL food, provide that food, and build a training center for future farmers. Free tours are provided on Saturdays and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the hour. No appointment is necessary. The little farm store hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and the farm is open every day for hiking, picnics and relaxing.
