Novato Man Arrested on Suspicion of Harassing Girl on Her Way to School

Alleged victim on Monday spotted the man who she said followed her and grabbed her shirt in a Thursday incident, police said.

Novato Police on Monday arrested a man who reportedly followed a girl on her way to school last week when he appeared at the same location, authorities said.

Ergin Reyes-Mazariegos, 34 of Novato, was arrested on suspicion of annoying or molesting a child under 18, authorities said.

The 17-year-old alleged victim told police on Thursday that she was walking to school at about 8:30 near First Street and Mirabella Avenue when a motorist pulled up beside her and started talking to her.

The student ignored the man and kept walking, but a few minutes later he walked up to her and pulled on her shirt after she again declined to respond to his attempts to draw her into a conversation.

The man then followed the girl in his car towards the area of Center Road and Diablo Avenue.

The girl contacted police after identifying the man on Monday on the 800 block of Diablo Avenue while she was on her way to school again, authorities said. Responding police arrested the suspect on the scene.
