Movement and Music

The Marin Museum of Contemporary Art in Novato, California presents MOVEMENT AND MUSIC, works by artist members Christie Stewart and Kathleen Lack.

Kathleen & Christie have been working in concert to produce an exhibition with a shared theme.  Their exhibit brings all the creative world of music and dance into a harmonious exhibit of sculptures & paintings. Their show began with Christie utilizing piano hammers as part of her sculpture of a ballerina with a wooden tutu. The hammers came from Kathleen’s daughter’s piano, as it was being refurbished. From there, the two artists found common ground in the theme “Movement and Music.” Kathleen Lack’s sensitively rendered oil paintings of dancers compliment Christie Stewart’s three dimensional pieces, which each contain a musical theme that inspires the work and evokes its rhythm.

The opening reception will include a live performance on the harp by Alia Sovereign and three ballet students from the Marin Ballet.  "It is always a joy for Marin Ballet to have an opportunity to collaborate with the art community", said artistic director of the Marin Ballet, Cynthia Lucas.
