The Buck Institute is a nonprofit organization dedicated to finding the correlation between aging and chronic…More diseases. In a relatively short period of time, the center has become one of the international epicenters of research on Alzheimer's disease, stem cells therapies and other aging-related maladies since it opened in 1999. The institute was founded with seed money from the Buck Trust, set up by a phlianthropic Marin County family.
At the eye-catching campus on the slopes of Mount Burdell designed by famed architect I.M. Pei, the scientists conduct research to find ways to detect, prevent and treat a variety of conditions such as cancer, cardiovascular disease and strokes. The campus is expanding as of 2011 and housing is planned for scientists east of the campus on Buck Center Drive.
