Just west of the Novato city limits, Stafford Lake County Park is a popular recreational facility for picnickers,…More anglers, hikers and disc golfers. It's known among locals for its quiet beauty and as a gateway to rural West Marin. There are large lawn areas, top-notch play structures for kids and barbecue areas for up to 500 people. Although swimming and boating is not allowed in Stafford Lake, fishing from the shore is permitted with a valid California fishing license. The park also is a popular choice for local Girl Scout events, occasional rock concerts, weddings, parties, film shoots and corporate functions.
Stafford Lake's disc golf has a dedicated following and occasional amateur and pro tournaments. For more info, check out www.staffordlake.com.
The man-made reservoir was formed in 1951 when the North Marin Water District used taxpayer funds to build a dam and flood the small valley. Ranches once stood where the reservoir is now. Novato's citizens get about 20 percent of their water from Stafford Lake.
A day use fee of $5 per person is required at the park and is payable at the entrance.
