A former cattle ranch and horseback riding facility in Ignacio was transformed into Marin Country Club in 1957-58,…More and today it is one of the classiest country club facilities in Marin County. The club was founded by Paul Trousdale of Beverly Hills, who later shared ownership of Marin Country Club with Texan Clint Murchison Jr., who at one time owned the Dallas Cowboys.</p> <p>The par-72, 6,509-yard golf course originally was designed by Lawrence Marion Hughes, who also desgined courses at La Quinta, Desert Inn and Round Hill. The course was renovated in 2008 by John Harbottle with new greens, bunkers and irrigation. There is a driving range, a pro shop and an indoor-outdoor computerized teaching facility. Shawn McEntee is the head pro, and the course record (black tees) is a 66 by Eric Smith. Guests may play the course with a member for fees ranging from $85-$125.</p> <p>Featuring a 36,000-square-foot clubhouse, Marin Country Club has a banquet room, a restaurant, a bar, a library/meeting room, a pool, a fitness center and four tennis courts. The complex is a popular rental place for weddings, banquets, company dinners, reunions and other special events.</p> <p>There are a variety of memberships available and dozens of annual special events for families. There are tennis, golf and swimming programs for kids. The club has a dress code that includes a no-denim rule on the golf course or banquet room.</p>
