The Wild Horse Valley Association is a common interest development that owns some of the most beautiful land in MarinMore County. It has 97 residential lots, along with several common areas and widespread bridal and hiking paths. It also has 138 acres of open space that have not been developed at this time. The Wild Horse Valley Association has its own newsletter and listserv, and holds special events for members throughout the year.

In the San Marin area of northern Novato, Morning Star Farm offers a variety of equestrian services including ridingMore instruction for all ages, horse boarding, horse training, summer day camps and birthday parties. Instruction is given at the facility at the junction of Novato Boulevard and Sutro Avenue, and rides sometimes go onto the trails of adjacent O'Hair Park. Classes in vaulting -- gymnastics on horseback -- are popular with kids and teens. Morning Star, just across Novato Boulevard from San Marin High School, is located on city-owned property and eased by the farm operators.
Novato Horsemen

Despite the spread of cities, suburbs and housing developments, there are still horse-backed riders roaming theMore countryside. Even so, it's fair to say that the land available for such activities is rapidly dwindling.

Enter the Novato Horsemen. This organization was formed in 1939 for the advocacy and protection of horseback riding land. Over 300 members participate in cattle events, trail rides and social affairs. Membership and events are open for all participants, whether they own horses or not.

Each year, members of Novato Horsemen ride from Novato to the Halleck Creek Riding club in Nicasio as part of a sponsored barbeque where the proceeds to go to all of the club's handicapped members.

Novato Horsemens is based out of the Atherton area of Novato.

Willow Tree Stables

Willow Tree Stables is a ranch and a full-service boarding and equestrian educational facility nestled in the westernMore end of Novato. Trained professionals instruct eager pupils on a wide range of lessons from day camps to specialized classes on riding and vaulting. It is located at the end of Vineyard Road, past the neighborhoods known as Wildhorse Valley and Verissimo Valle.

As a bonus, Willow Tree Stables is available for birthday parties and special events. It also offers individuals interested in owning a horse the opportunity to sponsor an animal to determine if the match is compatible, guaranteeing a set number of riding hours a week, as well as participating in the care and health of the animal.

The Marin Marketplace, formerly the Marin County Flea Market, is an upscale outdoor venue offering an eclectic mix ofMore collectibles, vintage clothing, antiques and new and designer merchandise. The Marketplace welcomes local entrepreneurs, offering innovative and unique products to the discerning. At the Marketplace, the adventurous can find vintage fabrics turned into one-of-a-kind purses, antique eyeglass frames and furniture made from repurposed architectural materials, as well as the traditional: historic photographs, rare books and political and sports memorabilia.
