The Next Key Center

Opened in November 2008, the Next Key Center at Hamilton is a housing and job-training campus that includes 32 studioMore apartments, a training kitchen for Fresh Starts Culinary Academy, the 150-person Key Room event space and administration offices for Homeward Bound of Marin.

The center was built as an extension of Homeward Bound's successful programs serving homeless adults and families, offering apartments at below-market rent along with culinary training and employment opportunities through the Fresh Starts Catering project and production of Halo Truffles as well as Key Room rental.

A $9.3 million fundraising campaign to complete the center included the nation's first nonprofit IPO, Homeward Bound's "Immediate Public Opportunity...to end homelessness" by purchasing "fundraising shares" in the project. Learn more about this campaign at www.hbofm.org.

Next to Homeward Bound's New Beginnings Center, a transitional housing program for 80 adults, the Next Key Center incorporates solar panels producing electricity and hot water. In 2011, Fresh Starts Catering and the Key Room gained certification as Marin County Green Businesses.

Christ Church North Bay is in a nondescript building on Redwood Boulevard that looks like a converted warehouse, butMore it is home to the church, the local office of the international nonprofit Jumpstart and the North Bay Christian Academy. The Rev. Isaac Stokes is the lead pastor of the nondenominational church, which is one mile south of Novato's downtown area.

Jumpstart, coordinated at the Novato office by pastor C.P. Titus, offers ESL classes, computer training, counseling services and works to fight homelessness.
