Finnegan's Marin is a popular Old Town Novato eatery and bar featuring an excellent assortment of Irish creations as…More well as elegant interpretations of "traditional pub fare." It was opened in 2006 in the location of one of Novato's most notable (and some say notorious) dive bars, the Bit O Honey. The transformation of the place into a classy Irish pub was a pleasant shock to longtime residents and quieted those who complained that Old Town Novato didn't have a decent meeting place at night.
In 2010 Finnegan's was voted Best Restaurant & Bar in Marin by Pacific Sun Readers, Best Burger in Marin 2010, and it additionally prides itself on having a standout menu just for kids. The bartenders keep busy with a first-rate assortment of cocktails, wine and beer. Finnegan's has nightly entertainment including karaoke on Wednesdays, live music on Saturdays and open mic night on Mondays. It can be loud inside, especially when patrons are enjoying a ball game, but Finnegan's has proved to be a focal point of Novato's nightlife. Don't forget that it is open for weekend brunch and lunch hour as well.
For the 21-and-over crowd, the Viking Cocktail Lounge is a large bar just off Grant Avenue in the heart of downtown…More Novato. It features a full bar, offering beers on tap and mixed drinks. It has a main room and a back room where you will find pool tables, shuffleboard, a pinball machine, jukebox and other arcade games.
The Viking has a reputation for being somewhat of a dive, although most of the people who say that have never stepped foot in there. Occasionally heavy metal bands take the stage and a group of motorcyclists stop by. It's not necessary a date-night destination, but it's a fine spot for a cold one.
