Flag as Inappropriate

The Novato-based North Marin Water District is a publicly owned district that serves a suburban population of about 63,000 people situated in Novato and several small improvement districts in the West Marin area near the coast. It supplies clean water from Sonoma County sources and Stafford Lake to businesses and residents in about 100 square miles. Overall there are about 21,000 service connections supplied by NMWD.

The utility, formed in 1948, is a special district -- not affiliated with the city but fully supported by money from user fees and charges. There are 53 full-time employees and a five-member board of directors elected at large that follows guidelines from the California Water Code. The district is a staunch support of water conservation efforts and environmental practices.
