  • Little Mermaid Sing-a-Long, 7pm, Castro Theatre
Saturday, January 11

  • A Year with Frog and Toad, 10:30am & 12:30pm, join two of the most beloved children’s book characters live onstage in this musical adaptation from the series Frog and Toad, Marin Theatre Company, Mill Valley.
  • Youth Winter Bird Count, 9:30am-12:30pm, Albert J. Boro Community Center, San Rafael.
  • ABADA Capoeira, an Afro-Brazilian martial art, fuses acrobatics, dance, percussion, and song. African slaves in Portuguese-colonized Brazil developed this rigorous form of self-defense, Bay Area Discovery Museum.
  • Moon Watch ’14: Family Night Hike & Campfire, 5:30-8pm, Join us for amazing moongazing! Using binoculars and a spotting scope, we’ll study the face of the moon and learn about its history and various formations. Binoculars provided or bring your favorite pair. Then we’ll gather ’round the campfire for quality time with friends and family, sing songs, and get silly as you roast s’mores by moonlight.
  • Mill Valley Family Fun Run and Health & Wellness Fair, 9am-1pm, kid friendly activities include Family Fun Run/Walk, jumpee, air brush tattoos, face painting and more, Mill Valley Community Center.
  • McNears Sturgeon Derby, 8:30am-1:30pm, annual winter fishing contest! A limited number of fishing poles and bait will be provided first-come, first-served to beginner fishermen, McNears Beach Park, San Rafael.
  • Point Reyes Christmas Bird Count for Kids, 10am-3pm, Clem Miller Environmental Education Center, Point Reyes.
  • Back to Bahia on Rush Creek, 9am – 1pm, help wipe out the remaining invasive French broom, this project involves a moderate level of activity and is suitable for all ages. Lunch will be served at noon. Meet at the Bahia Trail near the end of Bahia Dr in Novato.
  • Evening on the Hoo-Koo-E-Koo Trail, 3:30-6pm, learn about some of the plants and animals that call the area home, as well as the history of the foothills of Mt Tamalpais. This is a moderately strenuous hike with trail conditions that could be rocky and slippery, approximately 3 miles round-trip. Meet at the gate at the end of Crown Rd in Kent Woodlands.
  • Point Reyes Christmas Bird for Kids, 10am-3pm, Point Reyes National Seashore, Clem Miller Environmental Education Center.
  • Family Day: Heat Gun Sculpture, 1-3:30pm, make super cool heat gun sculptures made from scrap plastic, Museum of Craft and Design.
  • Afternoon Art, 1pm and 4pm, create a landscape painting with oil pastels, Randall Museum.
  • Drop-In Science, 10:30am, learn about music and build a xylophone, Randall Museum.
  • Candlelight Tour, 6:30-8pm, RSVP required, Fort Point.
  • Brushstroke and Calligraphy, 1-4pm, free with museum admission, The Walt Disney Museum.
  • Mochitsuki! Mochi-Pounding Ceremony, 11am-4pm, Asian Art Museum
  • Oshogatsu Matsuri – New Year Celebration, 11am-3pm, activities include arts and crafts for children, a children’s art contest, traditional mochitsuki (New Year rice pounding), food, cultural performances (including odori, kendo and taiko) and much more!  Bring a plain light colored t-shirt and have it screen printed with the Oshogatsu logo, JCCCNC Nisei Community Hall, Japantown.
  • Children’s Fairyland, Oakland
  • Weekend Workshop: Fire Away! Sling Shots and Catapults, 10:15am- 12pm, Elasticity, levers, and trajectory are just some of the physics concepts participants will experience in this design and build program, Members/$35, Non-members/$45, CuriOdyssey.

  • Woodland Winter, 9:30am-12pm, Discover the wonder of an old-growth redwood forest in winter on this leisurely walk on the Fern Creek and Alice Eastwood trails, Muir Woods.
  • Sunday Special: Charged Particles Jazz Ensemble, 11am, join us for a plugged-in family jazz concert featuring Latin, classical, and funk influences. You’re never too young (or too old) to experience the cool, energetic vibe of live jazz in the library, Mill Valley Library.
  • Ace Miles, 11:30am, Magic, Juggling, Ventriloquism and Escape Artistry with The Comedy Pirate, Captain Jack Spareribs! Hoytt Theatre, JCC, San Rafael.
  • Love2Dance Winter Performance: One Hit Wonders, 4pm, upbeat and entertaining show will also include the award winning routines from the studio’s competitive dance teams, Marin Veterans’ Memorial Auditorium, San Rafael.
  • Marin on Ice, last day, Northgate Mall, San Rafael
  • Drop-In Art Making, 1-3pm, Create a Miniature Forest, Celebrate the Jewish New Year for the trees by creating a miniature forest for Frog and Toad and other friends, Contemporary Jewish Museum.
  • Preschool Super Fun Sundays: Tot Tu B’Shevat, 10-11:30am, celebrate the Jewish New Year for the trees, family fun includes a visit from Frog and Toad, Lobel stories in the gallery, tree inspired art-making, and the first ever performance of original songs based on Adrianne and Arnold Lobel’s book The Frogs and Toads All Sang, Contemporary Jewish Museum.
