Week Ahead: Basketball Camp, Christmas at Finnegan's and Skateboarding Workshop

If you're not all booked up with family obligations and holiday parties, check out these events going on in or around Novato

Wondering how to entertain your energetic children during holiday break? Consider enrolling them in basketball camp through the city of Novato’s Rec program. Camps are held Monday, December 23, January 2 and 3 and on January 20. Open to boys and girls ages 7 through 13.

If your kid is more artistically inclined, take them to Studio 4 Art for either a half-day or a full day of art camp. Includes painting, ceramics and other mediums. $65/day. Ages 4 through 12.

Not much is open on Christmas Day in Novato, but one place is Finnegan’s. The downtown bar and restaurant will offer a special limited dinner menu starting 5pm Wednesday and live music starting 7pm. A good place to come to if you need a break from family or are just tired of cooking. Plenty of food options for kids too!

Want to become a better skateboarder or want your children to learn how to do so safety? Marin County Parks is holding a workshop at San Rafael’s McInnis Park Thursday aimed at teaching teens about skateboarding safety. Class will focus on spatial awareness, dropping into bowls with other users, taking turns, listening to our intuition and developing other skills for success in a dynamic sporting environment. Bring your own scooter or skateboard and safety equipment. 11am McInnis Skate Park, 310 Smith Ranch Road, San Rafael. Free.

Have you seen the Rombeiro house at 34 Devonshire Drive? Every Christmas season Edmundo Rombeiro and his family go all out with the decorations: thousands of lights on the roof and front yard. Inside, each room has a special Christmas theme, such as angels or a miniature alpine village with a train set chugging through. There are also photos of Christmases past and one room that pays homage to the family's hometown in the Azores. The Rombeiros open their awesomely decked out home to the public every evening from 6pm to 10pm. Donations to help offset the cost of electricity are appreciated. 34 Devonshire Drive.
