Spring Sprucing for the Downtown Fountain

Volunteers to beautify area around fountain Saturday at intersection of Grant and Redwood.

By the end of the weekend, the at Redwood Boulevard and Grant Avenue will be ready for its close-up.

The Old Town icon, in shabby condition last year, received a in November from the city of Novato public works team, and now a team effort is tackling a sprucing-up job of the center median.

City maintenance personnel led by Bill Johnson will join volunteers from Novato Sunrise Rotary, Novato Rotaract, Soroptimists International and possibly the Novato Garden Club on Saturday on the beautification project at one of the city's busiest intersections.

If you're up for it, bring shovels, rakes and other garden tools to join the work party. All the better if you have a pickup truck. The work is expected to start at about 8 a.m.; some rototilling was to take place Friday afternoon.
