Ash Wednesday Service at the Quest
Fat Tuesday, or Mardi Gras, was created because of Ash Wednesday and its 40-day train called Lent.
You may have heard of Mardi Gras, but have you heard of Fat Tuesday? Fat Tuesday is the literal English translation of the French, Mardi Gras. The Interesting thing about Fat Tuesday, or Mardi Gras, is that it was created because of Ash Wednesday and its 40-day train called Lent. Historically in France all of the cooking fat was to be used up the day before the Lenten fast began and so Mardi Gras or Fat Tuesday was born.
One of the things that we have found is that most of us don’t really understand these ideas, but that most of us would benefit from participating in them…yes, even participating in Mardi Gras. At the Quest we are going to be having an Ash Wednesday program on Wednesday, February 13, and whether this is a yearly practice for you or whether it has never been part of your life, we want to encourage you to join us and to investigate the beauty of these practices could create in your life.
