If you are happy about higher-level baseball in Marin, don't forget that the Novato Knicks have been around since the 1950s, playing a brand of homespun, grassroots semipro ball in the Sacramento Rural League. In fact, the Knicks kicked off their season last weekend and swept the Fairfield Indians in a doubleheader.

"We're just hoping to get a crack at them," said Knicks player Lek Cole. "That's what we want."

The Knicks play in a five-team league and usually play weekend doubleheaders. They will host the Fairfield Indians at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. June 16 at a field to determined.
