Three Novato North Teams Shoot for All-Star Crowns

Three teams representing the Novato North Little League began District 3 All-Star play this weekend at sites throughout Marin County.

In the 11-12, 10-11 and 9-10 age divisions, the Novato North representative will play six games over the course of the next two weeks in an effort to qualify for an eight-team, single-elimination tournament that will eventually determine the district champion.

The District 3 champion in the 11-12 division will continue down the long road to the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pa., having also to win sectional and regional tournaments in order to advance to the nationally televised championships.

Here’s a capsule look at each of the Novato North teams:

11-12-Year-Old All-Stars

Roster: Noah Boyd, Dominic Burke, Mitchell Crowe, Matthew DeFilippis, Logan Desmond, Jason Franks, Joseph Galli, Kyle Jones, Jacob Jossart, Jacob Pullan, Julian Villamante, Calvin Wright.

Schedule: Saturday vs. San Francisco American at Babe Silva Field, 5:30 p.m.; Sunday vs. Novato South at Babe Silva Field, 2 p.m.; Tuesday at San Francisco National, 5:30 p.m.; June 30 vs. Twin Cities at Babe Silva Field, 5:30 p.m.; July 6 at Ross Valley, 5:30 p.m.; July 7 at Dixie-Terra Linda, 5:30 p.m.

Note: Single-elimination quarterfinals begin July 9.

Coach Bill Burke’s thoughts: “This is the third year of All-Stars for most of this year’s team and they know what to expect. They are ready to play and see how they stack up against the rest of the county. Our goal is to make it out of pool play and then see what happens when we get to the single-elimination piece of the tournament.”

10-11-Year-Old All-Stars

Roster: Jack Duffin, Joseph Garbarino, Logan Gleeson, Hudson Grady, Riley Grover, Colin Hickey, Jacob Kennedy, Jared Myers, Christian Pedersen-Seaman, Justin Simonetti, David Thoma, Brandon West, Harrison White.

9-10-Year-Old All-Stars

Roster: Charlie Dial, Max Glasser, Luke Hance, Matthew Lozovoy, Beau McAndrew, Cole McCue, Connor Moylan, Adriano Puppo, Jake Schmidt, Spencer Shifs, Beau Thompson, Max Widergren, Nathan Williams.

Coach Brian Moylan’s thoughts: “We have 13 boys on the team, all of them with quite a bit of experience already. Should be a very, very good team. The boys have been practicing hard, every day, for nearly two weeks.

“The heart and soul of this team is there are no superstars, just a bunch of super kids who get along very well, playing like All-Stars.”
