San Marin's Wilkins Picks Arizona State

Novato prep standout made oral commitment on Thursday.

A Novato prep football standout is headed to the Valley of the Sun.

San Marin quarterback Manny Wilkins on Thursday made an oral commitment to play for Arizona State according to published reports.

Wilkins cited the school's reputation for strong academics and his interest in playing for coach Mike Norvell among the primary reasons for his selection in an interview with Rivals.com.

“As far as football, I think it's a perfect fit,” Wilkins said. “They have the No. 14 offense in the country and that was their first season. All of the quarterbacks, not just the starter, have said good things.

“I'm looking forward to being apart of that and helping the team win a Rose Bowl and a national championship.”

Wilkins, who will be a senior later this year, is expected to ink the deal early next year on national signing day. He picked Arizona State ahead of offers from Arizona, Utah State, Wyoming and Colorado State, the Marin Independent Journal reports.

Wilkins is coming off a junior year in which he led the Mustangs to the North Coast Section Division IV finals, throwing for 2,335 yards and 19 touchdowns. He also rushed for 567 yards and seven scores.
