San Marin's Kristofors, Novato's Pechanha Honored

The Marin County Athletic League coaches selected Nick Kristofors as football's Lineman of the Year and Carlos Pechanha as soccer's Player of the Year in their annual balloting.

’s and ’s were named the best in their respective sports when the Marin County Athletic League announced its all-league teams recently.

Kristofors, a senior, was voted the Lineman of the Year in football, capping a two-year run in which he dominated line play on both sides of the ball. The Mustangs standout had been a first-team All-MCAL selection on both the offensive and defensive lines last season.

Pechanha, meanwhile, was selected as the Player of the Year in soccer despite Novato’s fifth-place finish. The senior was a first-team pick as a forward in 2010.

Like Kristofors, Novato’s Jack MacDonald was honored in football for his play on both sides of the ball. He earned a first-team All-MCAL spot on the offensive line and a second-team distinction on the defensive line.

MacDonald was joined on the All-MCAL first team by fellow Hornets junior running back , senior defensive back Zachary Bugos and senior defensive lineman JT Pelki, and San Marin’s senior quarterback and senior offensive lineman Vince Correnti.

Seven other Hornets and five Mustangs also earned all-league football distinctions. Senior offensive lineman , junior linebacker Cory Inman and senior linebacker were second-team selections for Novato, while junior running back David Marinoft, senior linebacker Brendan Restivo and senior defensive lineman made the second team for San Marin.

The league’s honorable-mention selections included Novato senior quarterback , senior tight end and junior defensive lineman , and San Marin senior defensive back and senior linebacker .

Novato’s senior midfielder and San Marin’s senior defender Jesus DelToro were first-team All-MCAL soccer selections. The honor was the second in two years for Blaevoet.

Novato junior forward Tyler Britton and San Marin senior midfielder Josh Godoy were second-team picks, while Novato defender Lorenzo Hernandez earned an honorable-mention nod.

San Marin was represented on the all-league tennis team by doubles star Amanda Cardy. Novato’s Kaitlyn Larkin, Lela Fossett and Tegan Fossett all earned second-team honors in doubles, while Olivia Piotter was an honorable-mention choice in singles.

San Marin’s Campbell family was well represented in the water polo awards. was placed on the girls’ all-league second team, while brothers (second team) and (honorable mention) also earned distinctions in the boys competition.

Jeff Hadley of the Mustangs also made the boys’ second team. Novato’s (boys) and Lena Whittaker (girls) claimed honorable-mention spots, as did San Marin boys goalie .

In volleyball, San Marin’s was a second-team All-MCAL choice, while Novato’s Annalise Dowd and Rubye Fangmeier garnered honorable-mention distinctions.
