Novato's Sing Hee Nets Academic Honor for Dominican Lacrosse

Science major helps team tie for first place in conference.

graduate Tai Sing Hee was among nine Dominican University of California students named to the 32-member Western Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association All-Academic Team for 2012, Dominican announced Friday.

The Penguins' lacrosse team, by NCAA Division II Academic All-American Reed Upson, tied for first place in the WILA with Colorado Mesa, going 7-6 overall to give the program its first winning season in its eight-year history.

Sing Hee, a junior defender, was a WILA All-Academic team member last year as well. He is studying biological sciences at Dominican, located in San Rafael.

Joining Sing Hee and Upson on the honor squad were fellow graduated senior Corey Whelan of Oak Park, sophomores Brock Beall of Portland, Ore. and Austin Franks of Seattle, and freshmen Jake Bernstein of Kirkland, Wash., Ian Nickel of Rancho Santa Margarita, Case Donahue of El Dorado Hills, and Dylan Acevedo of Yorba Linda.

To be eligible, a WILA student-athlete must possess a 3.30 or higher cumulative grade point average throughout their collegiate academic career and play in at least half of his WILA games during the season. There are 13 more male student-athletes, including four from Dominican, on the All-Academic WILA team than last season.
