Racing driver Memo Gidley underwent back surgery late yesterday after the high speed crash between him and another driver.
In a statement GAINSCO Bob Stallings Racing released this morning, "Memo Gidley underwent surgery late yesterday to repair and stabilize the fracture in his lower back. He continues to be monitored and evaluated at Halifax Health in Daytona Beach, Florida," the team said.
This was the second surgery for the resident of Novato after his car slammed into the back of another driver's car during the Rolex 24 race, formerly the 24 Hours of Daytona endurance race.
Gidley and co-drivers were in the lead before the accident. The team stated that the racing driver had a first surgery Sunday on his arm and leg. His latest operation was on an "unstable fracture in his back" which required surgery before he can be released from the hospital the team said.
It is unknown when Gidley will be discharged or return to Novato.
