Novato Native Continues to Shine at Cal

Jared Goff leads the NCAA with 930 yards.

Jared Goff sent Marin County abuzz earlier this summer when he was named Cal's starting quarterback as a true freshman.

The volume grew louder when he set a school record for passing yards in a non-overtime game in his collegiate debut.

Now the nation is starting to take notice.

Two weeks into his storybook career, Goff has emerged as the NCAA's leading passer. He put up monstrous numbers for a second straight week in a 37-30 victory over Portland State on Saturday.

Goff threw for 485 yards and two touchdowns to lead Cal to its first victory under first-year coach Sonny Dykes.

That followed a 445-yard effort in a 44-30 loss to Northwestern that was the most ever for a Cal quarterback in regulation (Pat Barnes owns the all-time record with 503 yards in a four-overtime game in 1996)

That record lasted all of a week - with Goff out-doing himself on Saturday.

Goff's 930 total passing yards leads his next closest competitor (Oregon State's Sean Mannion) by 134 yards.

Goff is just the second quarterback in school history to throw for more than 400 yards in two straight games (Barnes did it in 1996).

"With the receiver talent we have it's more them than it is me, really," Goff told reporters in a postgame press conference.

"I just give them the ball and they go."
