Lizarraga Wins Twice at State Wrestling Event

San Marin standout had a nice thing going in the consolation bracket of the prestigious tournament until suffering a narrow defeat that brought to an end his terrific season.

Five Marin County Athletic League wrestlers combined to win nine matches Friday and Saturday at the CIF State Championships in Bakersfield.

's , the lone North Coast Section champ among the Marin quintet, was beaten 6-1 by Adrian Campasano of Central High in the first round.

He then got a default win over Ricardo Cespo of Oakland Tech and pinned Roman Flores of Hilltop in 2:26.

The Mustangs' star bowed out of the event in a heart-breaker, losing 4-3 to Lathan Lyles of Rodriguez.

Redwood's Dylan Morris led the way among the MCAL athletes with three wins that sandwiched losses via pin in the first round and 18-7 in the fourth round of consolation action in the 160-pound bracket.

Two of the junior's wins were by pin -- in 2:26 over Roman Flores of Hilltop and 4:14 over Eric Davila of Firebaugh. He was equally dominant in his other victory, a 12-1 thrashing of Trent Gardner of Tehachapi.

Terra Linda's two-man contingent of Roman Ermolov and Erick Figueroa both lasted four matches at the prestigious event.

Ermolov rebounded from a tough 1-0 loss to Ross Longnecker of Chico in his opener to edge Kyle Pope of Bakersfield 10-8 and then roll past Tyler Huckaby of Tracy 7-2.

The standout's high school career ended, however, in a 5-2 loss to Khymba Johnson of Center High.

Likewise, Figueroa came up just short in his first match, falling 7-5 to Eli Mack of Alta Loma in the 140-pound class.

He then stayed alive with a 2-1 thriller over Laith Alnassiri of Sheldon before dominating Ricky Feng of Lincoln-San Francisco 14-7.

Figueroa was pinned by Brady Bersano of Clovis in 2:49 in the third round of consolation action.

Marin Catholic's Michael Sitzman, a 135-pounder, was the long Marin representative to return home without a win, losing 10-3 and 8-6 decisions.
