First Honor for Wesonga: MCAL Player of the Year

More sure to come for San Marin senior; Chris Glennon, John Seavey, Leeann Alferness, Sarah Lucia also honored, as are Novato's Damien Smith, Maddie Tomsky.

High basketball standout , a candidate for California State Player of the Year and first-team all-state honors, took the first step in that direction when the Marin County Athletic League coaches named him the league’s Player of the Year.

Wesonga, the Cal State Northridge-bound senior who led the Mustangs to MCAL and North Coast Section titles and into the Northern California semifinals, won the MCAL triple crown of basketball this past season when he led the league in scoring (21.5), rebounding (20.2) and shot-blocking (5.0).

San Marin’s , meanwhile, was selected to the All-MCAL first team after averaging 11.6 points during his senior season.

Glennon was joined in the prestigious lineup by Terra Linda’s Mike Best, Drake’s Joey Euphrat, Redwood’s Matt Mareno and Marin Catholic’s David Ahern.

The league also honored San Marin’s and Novato’s , a pair of juniors, as Honorable Mention choices.

Seavey tied Glennon for the No. 8 spot among MCAL scorers at 11.6 per game. Smith was the league’s fifth-best rebounder (6.1) and also averaged 8.9 points per game.

San Marin’s earned first-team honors among the girls after leading the league in scoring (16.4) and rebounding (10.6).

The junior was joined in the selections by junior teammate , who garnered Honorable Mention honors following a season in which she led the league in assists (4.4).

Novato’s , one of the league’s top rebounders (5.9) and a consistent scorer (8.1) as just a sophomore, was a second-team pick.

Alferness was joined on the All-MCAL first team by Justin-Siena’s Hailey Breakwell and Katherine Lee, Marin Catholic’s Emily Easom and Tam’s Jenna May.

Branson senior Liz Coito was selected Player of the Year.
