WALK INTO HISTORY: From Wetlands to Planes & Back Again

Novato’s Hamilton Field, once a tidal marsh of San Pablo Bay, witnessed more than fifty years of continuous aviation activity since its dedication in 1935.  Now, one of the largest wetlands restoration projects in the country is underway  at this storied site.

Learn from Marin Conservation League and local experts about the Hamilton Wetlands Restoration Project. Walk along levees and see water birds where planes once took  flight. Hear stories from the WWII and post-war years, and from  participants whose actions over more than two decades shaped the future community and restoration.

Directions: From 101, take the Hamilton exit and turn east on Main Gate  Road. Proceed for a mile onto Palm Drive and meet in the main parking lot on the right, opposite the old movie theater.  This easy, family-friendly 2-mile loop  is  free and open to the public. Wear layers and  comfortable shoes and bring snacks and your binocs! Heavy rain cancels.
