Through my involvement in my neighborhood, I have gotten to know Rosa Vicente, who is also a servant to the East Oakland community. People in the community think of Rosa as a healer; she helped start the Farm to School program of Oakland Unified School District, she farms to bring more local foods to low-income residents, she leads cooking classes, and she regularly feeds her community at events because of her skills as a cook. Because of this work, Rosa has developed a work-related injury which insurance does not cover. She is fundraising $5000 to cover the cost of surgery and begin her own process of healing.

Please join me in welcoming Rosa Vicente to Novato at a Guatemalteco Brunch and Salsa Lesson. Rosa will cook her Oakland-renowned pupusas, empanadas, and other Guatemalan-style food. After enjoying a meal together, Rosa will give a presentation on her community work and will help lead an [optional] salsa dance class! Donations are appreciated; checks may be made payable to ASLC. Please direct any questions to sarahestelle@gmail.com
