Corbin Scorches Novato Track in MCAL Meet

While he's winning the 100 and 200, 11 different Hornets girls contribute to a third-place team effort and earn tickets to the NCS Redwood Empire event this week.

The girls track and field team got contributions from 11 individual performers and two relay teams in a great team effort that resulted in third place in the Marin County Athletic League Championships on Saturday.

Competing on their home track, the girls accumulated 89 points, fewer than just Redwood (113 1/3) and Tam (98).

The Novato boys placed fourth with 66 points.

, led by Michelle Stone and , placed seventh among the girls and ninth among the boys.

(high jump, 5-2) and (1,600, 5:15.04) were individual winners for the Novato girls. Martin also placed third in both the 100 hurdles (16.95) and 300 hurdles (49.21), while Madson took second in the 800 (2:21.99).

The top six finishers in each event qualified for this week’s North Coast Section Redwood Empire Championships at Rancho Cotate High.

Martin capped a busy day by running legs on the Hornets’ second-place relay teams in the 4x100 (with , Brittni Funke and Kylie Metzger) and the 4x400 (with , Carissa Madson and Metzger)

Carissa Madson also placed fourth in two events (400, 1:01.81; pole vault, 8-6), while Metzger took third in the triple jump at 31-11 ½.

Also earning a trip to Rancho Cotate for individual competition this week were:

Alanna Lovetri (sixth in shot put, 28-5), Funke (fifth in 100, 12.89; fifth in 200, 26.99), (sixth in 1,600, 5:28.85; fifth in 3,200, 12:22.75), (third in 3,200, 11:57.34), Isolde Callihan (fifth in 300 hurdles, 51.82), Hanna Jewess (fifth in triple jump, 31-1-1/2) and Rose Jarjoura (sixth in discus, 81-4).

Christian Corbin was a double-winner (100, 11.11; 200, 22.75) and Wesley Rumm captured the pole valut (12-6) to highlight the Novato boys’ performances.

Corbin also anchored the Hornets to fourth place in the 4x100 (44.41), running after Jack Headley, Danny Ulloa and Nick Lee. The Hornets took second place in the 4x400 (3:30.86).

Lee placed in two individual events – fifth in the 100 hurdles (16.72) and sixth in the 300 hurdles (43.92).

Also going to the Redwood Empire meet as individuals are Trevor Raras (fifth in the shot put, 42-9; fourth in the discus, 131-01), (sixth in the 3,200, 9:55.05), Dexter Friedman (second in the 100 hurdles, 16.45) and (third in the pole vault, 11-0).

San Marin’s Stone placed third in the shot put (31-4 ½) and fourth in the discus (82-6 ½).

Other Mustangs girls headed north this weekend will be (third in the 400, 1:01.66), Michelle Bollinger (sixth in the 3,200, 12:43.58) and Sarah Marthinsen (sixth in the triple jump, 30-10 ½).

Welter also participated on the San Marin 4x400 relay team that took sixth place. She teamed with , and Yixun Xu to clock a 4:24.68.

Only two boys had top-six finishes for the Mustangs – Kristofors (third in the shot put, 43-9; third in the discus, 131-02) and Justin Simonetti (fifth in the high jump, 5-8).
