Armando Gil, 29, of Novato and Williams Martinez-Carreon, 20, of San Rafael were convicted in November of two counts of gang-related attempted murder and participating in a criminal street gang. Gil and Martinez-Carreon were sentenced by Judge Terrence Boren. A third defendant, Alessandra Marie Coyle, pleaded guilty to being an accessory after the fact. A fourth suspect, Luis Felipe Rodriguez, escaped and remains at large. The shooting occurred Jan. 3, 2011, at the Hamilton Marketplace in Novato. Police said the two victims — a 27-year-old San Rafael man and a 23-year-old Daly City man — were attacked while sitting in a car. The paralyzed victim had been training to become a firefighter and paramedic. The first trial ended in a mistrial after the jury deadlocked 10-2 in the prosecution's favor. The second trial ended with convictions. Gil is already serving a prison sentence for two unrelated cases, one where he was convicted of having sex with a 15-year-old Novato girl, another for threatening the mother of his child. Those crimes predated the Novato shooting.
