What's on the School Board Agenda Today?

The Novato Unified School District Board of Trustees meet at 5 p.m. Tuesday to continue a conversation about an equity study.

Novato’s superintendent of schools is seeking board approval for a full study of school boundaries and a timeline for possible implementation when the Board of Trustees meets at 5 p.m. Tuesday.

Superintendent Jan La Torre-Derby said in a staff report that she would like to have an independent company called Total School Solutions work on a study that would be completed by December and have the board weigh in by January 2012.

Last month the trustees voted to close and distribute the students to other middle schools, turning the Hill campus into an alternative education center.

On Feb. 8, the board approved a short-term study that focuses on middle school boundaries that is slated for completion on March 8. If recommendations are approved by the trustees at the March 8 meeting, parents of fifth graders who would have attended Hill will know where their kids will be attending school this fall, along with the current sixth- and seventh-graders at Hill.

Attached are the agenda for Tuesday’s meeting and the monthly newsletter sent out by NUSD.
