Tree-Planting Ceremony at Sinaloa Will Honor 12-year-old Novato Girl Killed in Bike Crash
Hailey Ratliff was riding home from Sinaloa Middle School when she was fatally struck by an SUV on Novato Boulevard in September.
Sinaloa Middle School will honor a 12-year-old girl killed in a tragic September accident at a tree-planting and plaque dedication ceremony at the school on Thursday.
A Japanese maple will be planted to honor the life of Hailey Ratliff at the 2:45 p.m. ceremony, Sinaloa Principal Mary Pritchard said.
"It's an important time to mark the memory of a student that is lost," Pritchard said.
"It's important that she not be forgotten."
Ratliff had recently moved to Novato from Albuquerque, N.M. She was riding home from Sinaloa when she was fatally struck by an SUV on Novato Boulevard.
"It's always a difficult thing," Pritchard said.
"By having a tree planted with a plaque it will be a gentle reminder of a friend. She was not at our school for a long time yet she made an impact because of the type child she was."
