Stars of the Diamond Shine for School Fuel

Teams of Novato public school moms participate in softball tournament as part of nonprofit fundraiser.

You say there's a World Series going on right now? You must be referring to School Fuel's Annual Mom's Softball Tournament.

Moms and staff members from elementary and middle schools paid $40 for the chance to take some cuts, toe the rubber and scoop up some grounders, all in the name of helping out the nonprofit foundation that supports public school programs.

On Wednesday, the tourney started at and saw and advance in the single-elimination tournament. Olive rolled past 31-4 and Sinaloa topped 16-3.

At 5 p.m. Thursday at Lynwood, plays Olive and plays Sinaloa. The championship game is at 6:30 p.m. Friday at 's Gary Gates Memorial Field.

School Fuel received anonymous donations from two local business totaling  $1,100 in matching funds for monies raised during the tournament. Supporters can send in donations toward the matching offer through the website or donate directly during the games.
