School District to Discuss Major Facilities Plan

Demographics and boundaries to be included in study if approved by trustees.

Novato’s superintendent of schools plans to provide an update and recommendation on a master plan for district facilities during a meeting that starts at 7 p.m. tonight (Sept. 6).

According to a report by Superintendent Shalee Cunningham, the master facility plan will provide demographic details about the and the surrounding neighborhoods so the district can develop a long-range plans for the properties it owns.

“It is imperative that the district remain proactive in planning (because) the construction and modernization of school facilities cannot be accomplished in a short time period,” she wrote in the report.

The district already has a comprehensive facility analysis and enrollment projections in hand, but it is in need of updated demographics, a school boundary study, an asset management plan and new funding strategies for facility modernization.

Cunningham, who joined the district in July after taking over for the retired , said she will recommend a request for proposals for a comprehensive master facility plan to be finished within this fiscal year.
