Novato Teen Earns Makeover for Making a Difference

San Marin's Ruthe Huang was the recipient of a "prom package" awarded by Novato's Elise Armeen Salonto a deserving girl nominated by members of the community.

A San Marin High senior was sent to the prom in award-winning fashion.

Ruthe Huang was the recipient of a “prom package” awarded by Novato's Elise Armeen Salonto a deserving girl nominated by members of the community.

Huang won a makeover without being aware she was nominated.

“As someone who is to pursue things that interest her, and as someone who is driven to do her best work to gain the best results, Ruthe excels in everything,” San Marin college and career advisor Francine Cunnie wrote in a letter to the salon nominating Huang.

Huang is Co-President of San Marin's California Scholarship Federation has held board positions for four years. She is also Global Glimpse Ambassador at San Marin and President of the National Art Honor Society. She has been named to the Principal's Honor Roll, recognized as an AP Scholar with Distinction and is the recipient of San Marin Departmental Awards.

Huang has been an active volunteer locally and globally; helping launch an after-school tutoring program at San Marin and traveling to Nicaragua to participate in the Global Glimpse leadership program.

She also received a California State PTA Reflections Award of Merit for her Chinese brush painting, and passed with distinction the piano levels recognized by the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music.

She has maintained a 4.52 GPA.

“Hardworking and focused, she never submits work or involves herself in activities that are not a result of her best effort,” Cunnie said of Huang. “She is eager to be involved, and always willing to take a leadership role.”
