Novato Music Teacher Joins Elite Company
Sinaloa Middle School's Jason Eckl was named a quarterfinalist for the inaugural Grammy co-sponsored Music Educator Award. He was among 217 quarterfinalists picked from a national pool of more than 30,000 nominees.
Two nationally recognized music groups are among the most recent to join chorus singing the praises of a popular Novato teacher.
Sinaloa Middle School's Jason Eckl was named a quarterfinalist for the inaugural Music Educator Award, which is being presented by the Recording Academy and the Grammy Foundation.
"It's a tremendous honor," Sinaloa Principal Mary Pritchard said. "Eckl has created an outstanding program."
Eckl was among 217 quarterfinalists picked from a national pool of more than 30,000 nominees. The winner will receive their award during next year's Grammy Week.
It is not the first honor Eckl has received at Sinaloa. Earlier this school year his eighth grade rock band students won a national award, Pritchard said. Eckl has led afterschool jazz choir and musical performances, among others.
"We've always had an excellent music program at Sinaloa and (Eckl) has brought it to an all-new level," Pritchard said.
