Novato High Gears Up for Black & Gold Gala

Auction item donations needed to help the school raise $40,000 for technological upgrades.

s biggest fundraiser of the year, the Black & Gold Gala, has a goal of raising $40,000 to be devoted to technology on campus, organizers say. The Feb. 11 bash will take place at , and the signup deadline is Feb. 1.

The school is in dire need of a tech upgrade for students, faculty and staff. Most teachers have painfully slow computers in their classrooms or none at all. The computer lab has fewer than 20 desktop units, considered unacceptable for a school of 1,400 students.

Also, classroom projectors require bulbs that cost $250 apiece, and the science department is in need of a high-speed camera, strobe light with stop-motion and probe software.

“With parents, teachers, staff, individual benefactors and local and regional businesses working together, we can make a difference,” the organizers said in school e-newsletter.

Planners are appealing for donations of a product or service, gift certificates, hotel stays, airline miles, admission passes or event tickets that can be included in the silent or live auction.
