In less than two weeks, NUSD students will be heading back to school, and that means I'll start getting out the word about ways you can help the schools with your time and your money and your dining dollars. But if you've been itching to do a good deed or two all summer long, I've got a way you can scratch that itch.
According to a note from Principal Eileen Smith in the Loma Verde eNews, the spankin' new track will be in place by Friday, August 10. In her note, Smith talked of P.E. teacher Keith Bergman coming day after day to supervise the construction. Ignacio Rotary and some parents came on Saturday to help with the process.
But astro turf for the center and retaining wall and plants around the side of the track are needed. That's where you come in.
Do you have access to any bricks or large stones for building a retaining wall?
Call the Loma Verde office at 883-4681 and let them know.
The track needs to be watered daily for the first few weeks. Do you have a hose you can donate?
Call the office and let them know!
Got an inside track -- pun intended -- with any suppliers of astro turf?
You know what's coming, right? Call the office and let them know!
It's people like you -- generous donors -- who have made this track possible. If you can help them get over these last hurdles -- yeah, pun intended -- you'd really be making a difference.
