Expert on Parenting of Adolescents to Host Workshop

is hosting a two-hour workshop April 20 to clue parents in to the teen culture of parties, drugs and alcohol.

Guest speaker Michael Simon is the founder of Practical Help for Parents, which offers  timely, evidence-based information to support parents of teens, educators, administrators and mental health professionals that serve youths daily. Simon is the former director of counseling and student support for Bentley School, an independent high school in Lafayette, and a psychotherapist in private practice for 14 years. He speaks nationally about parenting teens and is writing a book on teens and status, looking at the complex relationship regarding anxiety over status and contemporary American youth culture.

The workshop will provide information about what parents should tell their adolescents to steer them clear of risky behavior and help them prioritize positive social behavior. Simon will offer tips on creating an ongoing dialogue with a teen and watching for telltale signs of drug/alcohol use.
