City of Novato Leases Warehouse to NTC, But Home Still Sought

NTC has still not secured a permanent home. Can you help?

On Nov. 13, the Novato City Council consented to Novato Theater Company (NTC) a 24-month lease for $1 a year of a warehouse for storage in Hamilton. The lease was signed by NTC board president Sandi Rubay and Treasurer John Clancy on Nov. 14, and city representative Tom Adams handed the key to Sandi.

NTC is extremely grateful for this assistance as it continues to struggle.

NTC enjoyed two "big hits" with its first two shows of their 2012-13 seasons, "Last of the Red Hot Lovers" and "Nunsense" at 32Ten Studios. It is all lined up to open its third season of the original musical version of "A Christmas Carol" at St. Vincent's School for Boys in San Rafael. "Steel Magnolias" will follow, also at St. Vincent's, with preview on Valentine's Day, Feb. 14, opening on Feb. 15.  What a great way to celebrate your loved ones -- high quality local live theater.  Tickets for this show will go on sale in January.  You will always find information about NTC's coming show in the Patch.

NTC continues to search for a venue to perform its last two shows of the season, "Gypsy" and "Foreigner."  If NTC is cannot find a suitable venue by the end of the year, there is a serious threat that they may have to go dark after "Steel Magnolias."  Season Ticket holders would of course be refunded.  (Remember: Novato Theater on Grant Ave. is a movie theater, under renovation, and not currently in a rentable condition.)

NTC is enjoying new patrons including those who discovered NTC while performing at 32Ten Studios and longtime Novato residents who decided it is time to support local theater in addition to being an occasional patron; donations continue to come in. NTC cannot thank them and all of their volunteers enough for their dedication and hard work, the very things that keep NTC alive and thriving.  NTC is certainly the 93-year-old theater company that could.

As you know, NTC has still not secured a permanent home, though they have been in negotiations with quite a number of locations, none of them have come to fruition at this time.

See the Patch event calendar for information about "A Christmas Carol" opening Sat. Nov. 24.
