Woolsey Sets Saturday Rally to Urge End to U.S. Involvement in Wars

Event set for 1 p.m. on Fourth Street in downtown San Rafael.

Marin County’s representative in the U.S. Congress, Rep. Lynn Woolsey, D-Petaluma, is making a public call for peace and an end to American involvement in wars around the world by hosting a rally from 1-2:30 p.m. Saturday in downtown San Rafael.

“Nearly a decade of war is bankrupting our country morally and fiscally,” Woolsey said in a release. “How many more of our young people have to die before we stop this madness? How can we spend $10 billion a month to occupy Afghanistan when we have so many unmet needs at home? I encourage all members of the community to come out on June 18 and unite for the cause of peace.”

There is less than a month remaining before a military drawdown in Afghanistan is scheduled to begin. Representatives from Veterans for Peace, CODEPINK and Iraq Veterans Against the War have pledged to attend the event, which will be at San Rafael City Plaza at the junction of Fourth and Court streets.
