Supes Throw Support Behind Allen in Assembly Race

Supervisors Susan Adams and Katie Rice announced their endorsements for Michael Allen in his campaign for a seat in the 10th District of California State Assembly.

Supervisors Susan Adams and Katie Rice joined the rest of the Marin board in their support for  Assemblyman Michael Allen in his reelection campaign when they announced their endorsements last week.

Supervisors Judy Arnold, Steve Kinsey and Kate Sears endorsed Allen, who is running for a seat in the 10th District of the California State Assembly, during the primary election. Allen recently moved to downtown San Rafael when redistricting splintered his current district, which included Napa County as well as parts of Sonoma and Solano counties.

“With every community in Marin, from San Rafael to Bolinas to Larkspur and beyond, facing cuts to schools and fighting to keep parks open, we need experienced, committed lawmakers like Michael Allen back in Sacramento to stand up for us,” Rice said in a press release.

Prior to his election to the Assembly in November 2010, Allen had a career as a registered nurse, lawyer, mediator and labor leader. He chaired the SMART Citizens Advisory Committee and worked with residents of both Marin and Sonoma counties to tackle transportation issues.

Allen earned the top spot in the June 5 primary. His runner up is San Rafael City Council member Marc Levine.

Although Levine did not receive any of the supervisor’s endorsements, he is “gratified to have broad support from local elected officials and community leaders across Marin and Sonoma, including the mayors of Santa Rosa, Novato, Larkspur, Tiburon and Sausalito and the sheriff and district attorney of Marin County,” he said.

Michael Allen is endorsed by Daryl Steinberg (D) who is one of the drivers behind OneBayArea and high density multi-family, low income housing.

Whatever, Whomever the Supervisors endorse, vote the opposite. They can't get anything right. Look at the pension mess they created!

Of course Supervisors are going to support Allen over Levine. When have they made a fiscally sensible decision? Allen says Governor Brown's budget is a ceiling not a floor. Allen's ties to special interests control his voting choices. Isn't it clear where County Supervisors get their directions from? Levine, a local Democrat, who is far more capable of representing Marin's interests in the Assembly, doesn't get a second glance, while Allen, who had to rent an apartment in Marin just to run, the poster boy for spend, spend, spend, gets all their support. They think with a hive mentality. They choose not to look at the issues. Heck, they are running a $10million dollar parks sales tax measure at the same time that Governor Brown is asking for a sales tax increase to create funding for schools. Remember Allen can easily outspend Levine but he can't control purse strings to save his life. Allen is not a representative of the people. Special interests particularly in the development industry control Allen. He would rather we go into bankruptcy than reign in spending and live within our means.

Mr Grimes
The pension mess has been discussed repeatedly with the Supervisors and their response has been to look the other way, or make minor adjustments. They may not have started the pension problem but surely they must be held accountable for not stopping it and renegotiating to protect the tax payers.

NOT MY VOTE
Michael Allen wants to be a career politician. He moved to Marin County to be eligible to run for the Assembly spot that is being vacated by Jered Huffman. Mr. Allen is also the co-author of AB 1389 which allowed for illegal immigrants stopped while driving without a drivers license to not have their car impounded. Folks like Michael Allen are putting illegal immigrants rights before those of our citizens. Well Assemblyman Michael Allen, this is what happens when you pass laws that make no sense. Your AB 1389 allowed this to happen. If Marcos Garcia's car had been impounded that Saturday it would not have been available to kill this little boy THE PRESS DEMOCRAT Last Modified: Friday, August 19, 2011 Police say the suspect in a fatal hit-and-run crash that took the life of 4-year-old Santa Rosa boy was cited for driving without a license less than a week before he plowed through a West Ninth Street crosswalk Thursday night and killed the youngster. Marcos Lopez Garcia, 22, was cited once for unlicensed driving last year and then again last Saturday, with instructions to appear in court Oct. 18 and ordered not to drive until then, Santa Rosa Police Sgt. Rich Celli said Friday. Santa Rosa Police Sgt. Rich Celli said Garcia’s car was impounded for 30 days when he was caught driving without a license last year. It was not impounded last weekend, however, at the discretion of the Santa Rosa police officer who stopped him.

"....we need experienced, committed lawmakers like Michael Allen back in Sacramento to stand up for us,” Rice said in a press release
This statement is laughable from Rice. The problem is Sacramento! With the same ole same ole we are in trouble. The Supervisors of Marin have failed us and are failing us. It's time for a local person, not a carpetbagger. VOTE FOR LEVINE!

This was emailed to me by someone who attended. So many Bay Area Residents oppose Governments PlanRead More Bay Area.

Susan thank you for posting this. Chris Pareja is an articulate speaker whose message needs to beRead More acknowledged. While community activists claim Plan Bay Area is the answer Chris uses their own statistics to point out how little is accomplished and the real hypocrisy behind advocates claims that it will provide "equity". Chris attended the Plan Bay Area Debate at the Civic Center and spoke there as well. Kinsey completely ignored his comments and kept repeating the party line: Plan Bay Area is the only answer we have so it is "good enough." Anyone who hasn't yet should take the time to watch the debate as it is a real eye opener. Kinsey's responses are quite disconcerting if he is being touted as the local expert on Plan Bay Area. I was shocked by how little he seems to understand. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OOE7Hyd5B40&feature=youtu.be

Hi Jim. Thanks for clarifying . Most of us assumed you were the new Novato Patch editor.
Jim Welte (Editor) June 17, 2013 at 10:55 am
Which is a fair assumption since my name and face are on it for now. Sorry for the confusion. In theRead More interim, I am more than happy to answer questions or address any concerns about the new design or our coverage of the community.
Tina McMillan June 17, 2013 at 01:03 pm
Jim What is the best way to reach you with questions and offers of help? If there is a way toRead More personalize each Patch to its community that would make a huge difference. Brent would post news articles as the primary focus. The comparison to a "penny saver" is the biggest problem with the new design. It does not favor news which is what many people are interested in. If San Rafael Patch is hosting the Plan Bay Area articles then doesn't it make sense to cross post them to Novato's front page too? Looking for news was never a problem with the old Patch, now finding the news in the middle of the garage sales, ads for businesses and announcements is where many people are stuck. It's unfortunate that Back Bay is the old design. It means corporate is throwing out what was the best of Patch. Is there anyone to write to, to suggest that the changes in format are not supportive of a online news source?
