Supervisors Susan Adams and Katie Rice joined the rest of the Marin board in their support for Assemblyman Michael Allen in his reelection campaign when they announced their endorsements last week.
Supervisors Judy Arnold, Steve Kinsey and Kate Sears endorsed Allen, who is running for a seat in the 10th District of the California State Assembly, during the primary election. Allen recently moved to downtown San Rafael when redistricting splintered his current district, which included Napa County as well as parts of Sonoma and Solano counties.
“With every community in Marin, from San Rafael to Bolinas to Larkspur and beyond, facing cuts to schools and fighting to keep parks open, we need experienced, committed lawmakers like Michael Allen back in Sacramento to stand up for us,” Rice said in a press release.
Prior to his election to the Assembly in November 2010, Allen had a career as a registered nurse, lawyer, mediator and labor leader. He chaired the SMART Citizens Advisory Committee and worked with residents of both Marin and Sonoma counties to tackle transportation issues.
Allen earned the top spot in the June 5 primary. His runner up is San Rafael City Council member Marc Levine.
Although Levine did not receive any of the supervisor’s endorsements, he is “gratified to have broad support from local elected officials and community leaders across Marin and Sonoma, including the mayors of Santa Rosa, Novato, Larkspur, Tiburon and Sausalito and the sheriff and district attorney of Marin County,” he said.
The pension mess has been discussed repeatedly with the Supervisors and their response has been to look the other way, or make minor adjustments. They may not have started the pension problem but surely they must be held accountable for not stopping it and renegotiating to protect the tax payers.
Michael Allen wants to be a career politician. He moved to Marin County to be eligible to run for the Assembly spot that is being vacated by Jered Huffman. Mr. Allen is also the co-author of AB 1389 which allowed for illegal immigrants stopped while driving without a drivers license to not have their car impounded. Folks like Michael Allen are putting illegal immigrants rights before those of our citizens. Well Assemblyman Michael Allen, this is what happens when you pass laws that make no sense. Your AB 1389 allowed this to happen. If Marcos Garcia's car had been impounded that Saturday it would not have been available to kill this little boy THE PRESS DEMOCRAT Last Modified: Friday, August 19, 2011 Police say the suspect in a fatal hit-and-run crash that took the life of 4-year-old Santa Rosa boy was cited for driving without a license less than a week before he plowed through a West Ninth Street crosswalk Thursday night and killed the youngster. Marcos Lopez Garcia, 22, was cited once for unlicensed driving last year and then again last Saturday, with instructions to appear in court Oct. 18 and ordered not to drive until then, Santa Rosa Police Sgt. Rich Celli said Friday. Santa Rosa Police Sgt. Rich Celli said Garcia’s car was impounded for 30 days when he was caught driving without a license last year. It was not impounded last weekend, however, at the discretion of the Santa Rosa police officer who stopped him.
This statement is laughable from Rice. The problem is Sacramento! With the same ole same ole we are in trouble. The Supervisors of Marin have failed us and are failing us. It's time for a local person, not a carpetbagger. VOTE FOR LEVINE!
