Stand Up for Neighborly Novato Co-Founder Takes Stand Against Fear-Mongering

Rev. Pamela Griffith Pond writes that efforts to address local housing have been sidetracked by anxiety over safety issues of one or two affordable housing areas.

A co-founder of the housing advocacy group has  some harsh words for people who have opposed the rezoning of properties to allow for low-income housing options within the city.

In an opinion piece published Thursday in the , the Rev. Pamela Griffith Pond wrote, "Anti-housing advocates have inculcated a lot of fear in Novato and unfairly stereotyped low-income residents as, at best, irresponsible parents or people looking for a handout, and, at worst, a group of criminals. This is not the way for other cities in Marin to handle their housing issues."

Meanwhile, a group of volunteers appointed by Novato City Manager Michael Frank that could accommodate affordable housing as part of the city's general plan update. The recommendations will go before the Novato City Council on June 23.
