Poll Shows Little Support for RepealSMART Effort

North Bay Leadership Council funds poll that shows strong support for SMART to move forward with commuter train plans in Marin and Sonoma counties.

If a new public poll is an accurate indication, the RepealSMART effort to stop funding for a 37-mile passenger train for Marin and Sonoma counties would fail if presented to voters next year.

The Petaluma-based North Bay Leadership Council said residents want the project to succeed and want hundreds of workers to start construction on the line between Santa Rosa and San Rafael.

In 2008, more than two-thirds of voters approved a quarter-cent sales tax increase in the two counties over 20 years to fund the Sonoma-Marin Area Rail Transit line.
