Plans for S.F. on April 27-30? Doyle Drive Will be Closed

Weekend travelers between Marin and San Francisco will have to navigate a complete closure of Doyle Drive in San Francisco from 8 p.m. April 27 to 5 a.m. April 30, officials behind the $1.1 billion Presidio Parkway project said this week.

The project team is hosting a series of public meetings on that closure, including one this Thursday, April 12 in the Mill Valley Community Center’s Cascade Room from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Project collaborators, including the California Department of Transportation, the San Francisco County Transportation Authority, and the Federal Highway Administration, are shutting down the roadway to allow for the demolition of Doyle Drive and for the opening of its Presidio Parkway replacement.

As a result of the closure, all travelers exiting the Golden Gate Bridge southbound will have to exit onto Highway 1 or into the Presidio during that period. The Presidio Parkway is a “seismically safe temporary bypass” that includes a new bridge and a tunnel. Traffic will remain on this route until construction is complete in 2015, organizers said.

Officials said they expect public transit to be modified to cushion the blow of the closure, and motorists are encouraged to use the Bay Bridge to access San Francisco.
