Patriotic Spirit Thrives at Vets & Cadets Event

Marin County honored its veterans and helped raised funds for the Novato Unified School District at the annual Vets and Cadets Dinner at Marin Catholic High School in Kentfield. It was hosted by the Building Better Citizens for America on Nov. 10, the eve of Veterans Day.

Susan Miller, President of Building Better Citizens for America, hosted the event to honor Marin veterans and raise money for NUSD and the Air Force Junior ROTC program based at Novato High School. The event was highlighted by a presentation by Jonna Dooliitle Hoppes, granddaughter of famed Gen. Jimmy Doolittle and author of Calculated Risk: A Biography of American Hero General Doolittle. Doolittle Hoppes gave an inspirational speech about the heroic life of her grandfather, the leader of the Doolittle Raiders, who bombed Tokyo in 1942.

The event also included dinner, music by the Swinging Blue Stars, a live auction, a book signing by Doolittle Hoppes and Gen. Doolittle's son, Col. John Doolittle (USAF retired), a presentation by the Honoring Marin Veterans organization, and an emotional presentation of Jonna Doolittle Hoppes book, Just Doing my Job, to all veterans in attendance.

Cadets, parents, and friends of the JROTC all participated to make this event an enormous success.
