Novato Mayor Pro Tem Backs Athas in Council Race

Novato Mayor Pro Tem Eric Lucan has endorsed incumbent Denise Athas in this year's city council race.

Athas is among four candidates running for two open city council seats. The others are Mayor Pat Eklund, Eleanor Sluis and Steve Jordan.

Athas has posted Lucan's testimonial on her campaign's website.

“Denise has my twofold endorsement for re-election to the Novato City Council," Lucan said.

"First of all, as a resident of Novato, I have watched Denise actively engage the community in her decision making process and tirelessly serve our community day after day. Secondly, as a fellow Councilmember, I have been even more impressed by her leadership and commitment to our city – she is a true public servant.”

That Lucan hasn't endorsed Eklund shouldn't be viewed as a veiled swipe, he said.

"She hasn't asked for my endorsement yet," Lucan told Patch.

"If she would like my endorsement I would very much like to speak to her about it, I think she's done a great job as mayor the last year."
