Novato City Council Candidates Forum Scheduled for Sept. 9

Seven running for three seats will meet over breakfast at Southern Pacific Smokehouse.

Mark Sept. 9 down on your calendar if you’d like to get to know the seven people running for Novato City Council this fall.

The has set up a candidates breakfast forum for 7:30 a.m. Sept. 9 at the at the shopping center.

Three seats are open on the council, and two incumbents — Madeline Kellner and Jeanne MacLeamy — are vying for re-election. They will be challenged by housing official Manny Fernandez, attorney Jerome Ghigliotti, businessman Eric Lucan, former school board member Leslie Peterson-Schwarze and retired teacher Eleanor Sluis.

announced in late July that she would not seek re-election. The election is set for Nov. 8.

The chamber will bring in political columnist Dick Spotswood to moderate the forum and ask questions about what issues are most important to the candidates.

Admission is $25 for chamber members and $35 for nonmembers, and Sept. 5 is the sign-up deadline; an additional $10 will be charged after that.

A light breakfast will be provided at the restaurant, 224 Vintage Way.
