Mills Restaurant Site, Buck Housing on Design Agenda

Design Review Commission to discuss two developments at Dec. 7 meeting at City Hall.

The Novato Design Review Commission is to discuss a development plan for a downtown property formerly occupied by and talk about designs for the housing on the property. The commission meets 7:30 p.m. Dec. 7 at .

The Mills building — the establishment closed this week — has been a restaurant under several names since the 1960s, shortly after one Novato's first public schools was moved from the property off De Long Avenue between Machin Avenue and Redwood Boulevard. The architect who is working on the nearby complex also is producing drawings for 7330 Redwood Blvd., between and a . The developers propose a small commercial building with tenants that might be suited for coffee shop, some sort of eatery and a service-oriented retail store. for more details on the Mills site plans.

The Buck, a research facility on the slope of Mount Burdell, plans 130 units on the eastern hillside just off Buck Center Drive. Of those units, 128 units would be categorized as affordable and meant for institute employees and graduate students. Click here to learn more about Buck's plans.
