'Faces of the City: Matt Podolin' comes from the city's e-newsletter.

The following Q&A is from the city of Novato's Our Town e-newsletter, which you can receive for free by signing up here. In this feature, we get to know Matt Podolin, who was featured as November's employee of the month. He's working with the Novato Police Department's Novato Response Team.

How long have you worked for the city and what is your role?

I have worked for the city for the last year and a half, and I'm currently the management analyst for the Novato Response Team. I was previously a management analyst intern in the Administrative Services Department.

The NRT focuses on public safety and community problem solving. It consists of Corporal Nick Frey, Officers Nick Conrad and Nick Berg, and myself. As the management analyst for the team, I help coordinate projects and processes as well as provide data analysis.

What do you like best about your position with the city?

I'm excited to work with the NRT to help improve public safety and quality of life in Novato. The team collaborates with a wide range of partners including business, nonprofits, and other community organizations.

I am enjoying working with people from different sectors and learning from their experiences. There has also been a tremendous amount of support for innovation and creative problem solving on this team. It's exciting and energizing to work with great colleagues on new approaches to some of Novato's challenges.

What professional accomplishment are you most proud of?

I am proud to be working with the NRT and to be able to impact the program as it grows. It is a great opportunity to contribute to the community.

What is an interesting fact about you? Maybe a hidden talent?

After college, I moved to Nairobi, Kenya, to be the site manager of the newly-launched Kibera School for Girls. The school provides free education for some of the brightest and most at-risk girls in Kenya's largest slum.
