Library Users: What's Your Plan During the Remodel?

The main Novato Library is closing for three weeks starting March 7.

We love our public libraries here in Novato, that's for sure.

If you're a fan, what are you going to do when the main Novato Library on Novato Boulevard is closed for three weeks? It's getting a makeover starting in early March, according to this story in the Marin Independent Journal. The money is coming from a parcel tax that was passed in 2010.

The inconvenience will be worth it, said Janet Doerge, branch manager.

"High-demand materials will be easier to access," she said in a release. "There will be a single convenient information desk, more convenient and efficient check-out, improved lighting and carpet and improved accessibility to the library."

There are some people who go to the main library nearly every day. So, what's the alternate game plan?

Here's one idea: Try the South Novato Library at Hamilton Landing. It's cozy and not that convenient to get to for many residents, but it's a nice place. And it is staying open longer during the other library's remodel, Doerge said. The temporary hours will be 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays, noon to 5 Fridays and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays.

The main Novato Library will not be accept returns of materials during the remodel, and materials checked out prior to the closure will be given extended due dates, Doerge said. Materials can always be returned to libraries anywhere in Marin. All materials placed on hold at Novato can be picked up at the South Novato Library during the closure, she said.

In addition, all programs scheduled for the main library have been cancelled or rescheduled to the South Novato Library.

Want to donate books? Don't forget about the Book Place, which is run by volunteers of the Friends of the Marin County.
