Huffman, Roberts Set for Congressional Debate in Mill Valley

State Assemblyman and Tiburon investment exec head to The Redwoods senior community in quest to represent the new 2nd Congressional District.

senior community in Mill Valley is hosting a debate between U.S. Congressional hopefuls Dan Roberts and Jared Huffman next Thursday, Sept. 13, from 7-8 p.m.

The candidates, Huffman a San Rafael Democrat and Roberts a Tiburon Republican, are vying for a U.S. congressional seat held for two decades by the , D-Petaluma. California's redesigned District 2 includes Marin County and much of the state's northern coast.

Dick Spotswood, longtime Mill Valley resident and political columnist for the Marin Independent Journal, will moderate the debate and pick questions that will be of special interest to seniors. The debate will focus largely on issues like the economy, jobs, education and healthcare, among others.

Huffman was elected to the California State Assembly in November 2006. Roberts is founder, president and chief executive officer of Roberts & Ryan Investment in San Francisco. Huffman and Roberts emerged from the June primary election under the state's new primary election system whereby the top two finishers advance regardless of party.

The candidates are also set to attend a public debate at Dominican University in San Rafael later in the campaign. The full debate schedule will be released by the campaigns soon.

The 411: Congressional candidates Jared Huffman and Dan Roberts will debate in The Redwoods Auditorium at 40 Camino Alto in Mill Valley on Thursday, Sept. 13 from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Candidates will attend an onsite reception afterwards.
